About Father Tanase
Father Nicolae Tanase is the priest in the romanian village VALEA PLOPULUI.He is married and is the father of 6 children. He is also in the service of another nearby village, VALEA SCREZII. In 1990, Father Nicolae began his fight against abortion by preaching. Some young women give up the thought of abortion, but can't afford a child for social and economic reasons. That is why Father Nicolae establishes in 1994, the PRO VITA ASSOCIATION(pro vita = pro life). This association takes care
of children, for an established or nonestablished period of time, but it also welcomes orphans or children who live on the streets. Mothers who leave their child here can allways take him home again, which is known to happen after two or three years, when their social status allows it. The association keeps in touch with
the mothers in order to help raise their children.PRO VITA presently has several houses for the children. But Father Nicolae has had his parishioners to contribute. In the face of the important number of children (who he finds abandoned at his door), the Father entrusts them to the families of his parish. These families often allready have several children, up to six; but they still manage to find the love to raise up to four other. In the present conditions of a country like Romania, you may call this a heroic gesture.
At VALEA SCREZII, Father Nicolae built, apart from a place to live, also a medical unit and a church, a bakery and a stable. In this establishment there are allready children living, along with adolescents and young men and women; at the age of eighteen, they have to leave the orphanages and often end up on the streets. Father Nicolae has taken young mothers and their children out of the basements of Bucharest. He struggles for life, a gift presented to us by God. He struggles for the life of the romanian people and it's future. Given the increased number of emigrants due to our country's political and economical situation and on top of that the tragic reality of the traffic with romanian children, who are bought by some of the foreigners from western countries, this traffic is bluntly condemned by Father Nicolae even in courts.
Father Nicolae also takes care of two small printing houses, one of which publishes writings involving orthodoxy, in support of the parish located at Valea Plopului, where the church St. Archangels is yet to be finished. The other one's publishings support life and condemn abortion, in support of the association PRO VITA. The Father participated in T.V. shows involving this matter
in Romania and also abroad. He is a truly remarcable person. In september 2000, Father Philippe Calès was presented with the opportunity of encountering, in Romania, a theologian who knows Father Nicolae very well. This priest is the one who brought the Holy Eucharist to Father Nicolae when he was close to death.....there were three lifethreatning situations for Father Nicolae in the time of the communism in Romania, due to his religious activity.
Father Nicolae together with his wife were found in a state near death on the street one night, consequence to a ''simulated'' accident. They were just a step away from death, but with the help of their doctor friends they managed to survive. Even today they haven't entirely surpassed the trauma. This happening was the result of Father Nicolae mobilising the people from his village for the construction of a church, St. Archangels, which was banned at that moment. Each and every night, some of the people would work while others would stand guard. When the militia would appear, everyone would dissapear. Even with that, the church was eventually built, and now it's the pride and joy of Valea Plopului. Another thing that compromised the Father was the publishing and distribution of some religious books, a thing that was also banned back in the day. That is why this theologian considers Father Nicolae a martyr and an abbot.
