Pro Vita is an orthodox association for charity, with no lucrative purpose, non-guvernamental, non-profit according to the decree n° 1/20 dating january 1994. Centrally located at Valenii de munte, in consequence of the agreement n° 1625 of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection Department, it's purpose is the fight against abortion, taking part in the Sf. Brancoveanu movement, in accordance with the christian orthodox principles. The association has been founded by Father Nicolae Tanase along side his wife, Maria Tanase. It involves associated members, permanent employees and volunteers from different fields (engineers, architects, priests, teachers, agricultors, students, artists, public officials and doctors).
Our activity takes place in the villages Valea Plopului and Valea Screzii, Posesti, Prahova district, and it involves multiple activities: some of the children are entrusted to the families in the village, others are welcomed in the parish and are raised by employees of the organisation or by the volunteers. Pregnant women or mothers with newly born children are also welcomed.
We have in our care approximately 220 persons: children whose mothers gave up on abortion or children coming from families with grave social difficulties, entrusted to the association for a period of time; there are others suffering from a handicap abandoned in hospitals, who are integrated into a family; also children who once lived on the streets, young girls and boys who, at the age of eighteen had to leave the orphanages, are taking part in the work inside the association; pregnant women and mothers left on the street by their families are being helped until the resolve of their personal problems.
The association also helps the children in the village and in the surroundings whose families have financial hardships, by providing them with a warm meal each day, organising free camps, all of these with the help of the local householders or of other surrounding parishes, in the name of the christian spirit and of the romanian tradition. The organisation constantly evolves due to the rapid increase in the demands which we recieve. Our employees ( Tatiana Samoila, engineer, Iuliana Hattel, social assistent, and the persons in charge of the kitchen, of caring for the children and in charge of the cleaning, etc.) are all assisted by the young girls raised in orphanages, where they learned childcare and housekeeping.
Additionally, many of the volunteers work in the village or outside the village to earn money or other types of donation, for the publicity or in order to organise charity events. The mayoralty has granted some pieces of land to the association, some rural houses owned or rented, furniture, kitchen equipment, sanitary supplies, etc., which come from donations or are bought by us. Also we have woodwork from our own resources, a workshop and sculpture material for obtaining religious objects, two rustic bread ovens and an electric one, some domestic animals and two donated cars which are very often used.
The charitable families in the village have an essential contribution. Their help is very precious for the activities of the association. Constant income is assured by selling religious objects (icons, painted wodden crosses, crafted in the workshop) and by some regular contributors who offer their contribution based on their possibilities. Other irregular income is collected by Father Nicolae Tanase and the benefactors.
